Dr. Susanne A. Shavelson brings years of experience in strategic planning, grant writing and non-profit administration to her work for The Prospero Group’s clients. She has a solid record of success working with funders and professionals in a wide variety of organizations. As co-founder of the Institute for Informal Jewish Education (IJE) at Brandeis University, where she was assistant director, Susanne played a key role in the Institute’s strategic planning, fundraising and communications initiatives. Susanne wrote or co-wrote all the IJE’s grants from 1999 to 2006, beginning with startup funding from the Charles and Andrea Bronfman Philanthropies. From 2004 until 2006 she directed the IJE’s Community Hebrew High Schools Initiative, funded by Legacy Heritage Fund, Inc.

With 30 years of development experience in both healthcare and academia, Susan Toner is recognized nationally in the philanthropic community as a seasoned professional with an in-depth knowledge of capital campaign strategy and implementation, board development, and comprehensive development program design and management.

Jim Roehm is an experienced and enthusiastic advocate for advancement programs with almost forty years of experience in agency management and building sustainable donor relations for institutions. Starting as a collegiate volunteer with the American Red Cross, Jim built a 14 year career in four cities. In 1988, he was recruited to an Illinois hospital foundation and raised increasingly progressive amounts in all sectors of giving with three different medical systems. Moving to Rhode Island from Chicago in 1999, Jim dramatically grew the planned giving profile for Lifespan Health System, doubling the number of charitable gift annuity agreements in force. Jim was part of Brown University’s campaign, ‘Boldly Brown’, where he worked as a major gifts officer with an assigned 14 state territory. In 2007 he returned to his love of charitable planned giving for the Preservation Society of Newport County.

Susanne’s clients also benefit from her strong skills in editing and the organization of information, which she applies to e-newsletters, websites and other media. She has worked with many different kinds of organizations in the fields of education, religion, healthcare and social services.
