Dean has 30 years of experience in software design for military systems and protocols. Dean's 19 years at Simpact included the development of a large Military/Government suite of communication protocols. These are a combination of synchronous, asynchronous, bisynchronous, and HDLC-based protocols used in tactical data link, radar, telemetry, weather, and other applications. Dean also has experience with IP-to-WAN translation applications for Protogate's communication servers, and an extensive history of customer support for such products.

Protogate's primary hardware products are ICP boards and Freeway ® s. Our primary software products are serial communications protocol programs which run on our ICP boards, server daemons (such as the Message Switch ) which run on the Freeways, and DLI/TSI subroutine libraries which run on various platforms (Sun Solaris, NT, VMS, HPUX, etc.) and which make it easier for our customers to make connections from their machines to a Freeway. We also provide ICP board drivers for a few operating systems, for customers who want to install ICP boards directly into their own machines.

The Freeway requires only a simple socket interface to your client machine -- it just needs to be connected to the same IP network. On the other hand, installing embedded ICP boards requires opening the case of your client machine, installing ICP boards into PCIbus slots, installing an ICP driver, etc. The Freeway's lack of impact on your client machine leads to fewer cross-process bugs, easier client software debugging, and easier client machine hardware/software upgrades in the future.
