Description
Dr. Richard Vedder is Distinguished Professor of Economics and Faculty Associate at the Contemporary History Institute at Ohio University, where he has taught for over 30 years. During the Reagan Administration Dr. Vedder also served as an economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.
The first annual meeting of the Iowa Association of Political Scientists (IAPS) was held in March 2011 at the Howe Activity Center at Iowa Wesleyan College. The meeting was co-hosted by Iowa Wesleyan College and Public Interest Institute. Speakers at the IAPS meeting included Iowa’s Second District Representative Dave Loebsack and Jeff Boeyink, Chief of Staff to Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. Presentations were also made by Dr. Eduardo Magalhães III of Simpson College and Dr. Christopher W. Larimer of the University of Northern Iowa. Officers for the IAPS include Dr.
In his role as an advisor to the Institute, Dr. Peirce brings over 30 years of experience in research and teaching. Included among his teaching specialties are energy economics, public finance, and the economics of technological change.
Dr. Don Racheter, professor of political science, envisioned a research organization in Iowa that would offer positive solutions and alternatives to state and local officials, encourage economic freedom and opportunity, and promote the role of the private sector in providing services economically and efficiently. With the support of David M. Stanley and E&M Charities, Public Interest Institute was incorporated in 1989 as Iowa’s only state-level, independent, public-policy research organization.
Dr. Bish brings to the Advisory Board years of experience in research, teaching, and consulting on local government organization, operation, and finance in the U.S. and Canada.
