Description
A construction documents specialist, Whitted has over 15 years of experience in the architectural design and production industry. His work spans a variety of projects, including educational facilities and historic preservation efforts. A highlight prior to coming to Q+, he says, was being part of a team to design a new elementary school prototype for Richland County District Two.
Quackenbush Architects + Planners, celebrating its 10-year anniversary throughout the year 2014, has experienced exponential growth since being founded in 2004 in Columbia, South Carolina by Douglas Quackenbush AIA LEED AP.
The University of South Carolina is seeking to expand its Tennis facilities with new team spaces utilizing shell area beneath the existing stadium. With chamfered building edges, the design draws inspiration from the court access points, allowing dynamic circulation and gathering opportunities in what would have otherwise been a narrow orthogonal space. The design provides the men's and women's teams with state-of-the-art locker rooms, lounges and restrooms.
Recognized as a CEFPI national finalist for the McConnell Award, this cutting edge 290,000 square foot High School was designed in partnership with Perkins + Will to meet the ever expanding needs of Richland County School District Two. The school housed 1,700 students initially, but has a core that will allow expansion of up to 2,000 in the future. Technology and progressive teaching methodologies inform the design of the campus at all levels.
Most recently, Steinbrecher was a senior design and project manager at GMK Associates in Columbia, where she took a lead role in transforming space within the West Columbia, S.C.-based Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community from a skilled nursing facility into a thriving 22-bed rehabilitation program. The challenge of the renovation, notes Steinbrecher, was to meet the needs of a new patient community within the constraints of an existing building envelope.
