About The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) RESIDENTIAL INTERNSHIP IN NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT Quaker Center is pleased to announce an internship opportunity for an individual who is led to provide service to the Religious Society of Friends and Ben Lomond Quaker Center while developing meaningful skill and experience in nonprofit management and conference center operations. The Quaker Center Internship The intern at Ben Lomond Quaker Center has a wide range of opportunities for both service and education in an environment that encourages independent thinking, creativity and ethical decision-making. He/she participates in all aspects of the daily operations of the center, including: The internship is a 40 hour a week commitment, with significant weekend and holiday work for which compensatory time is earned. The intern is encouraged to participate in some social and recreational activities outside of Quaker Center; there are some modest funds available to support these activities. Educational Project In addition to full participation in the operation of Quaker Center the intern will develop and carry out an educational, growth-oriented project that will enrich the intern’s learning experience while supporting the mission of Quaker Center. This project will be planned by the intern and the directors with the goal of helping the intern become particularly knowledgeable about an area of inquiry that interests them. Some examples of a possible learning project might be: Spiritual Growth A further opportunity for the intern will be time for spiritual and personal growth. Quaker Center’s beauty and its focus on Friends’ values, processes, and spirituality can be an enriching experience and an important step in developing leadership skills. Interns participate in Quaker Center programs, board meetings and weekly meeting for worship at Quaker Center. Santa Cruz Friends Meeting is nearby, and the intern is welcome there as well. Quaker Center is committed to the idea that each person has the capacity to experience the divine, and living among others who are also on that journey can be enriching to all. Benefits and Accommodations The internship program is a full-time residential program. The intern lives at Quaker Center in a furnished two-room suite with a kitchen. Health insurance, a relocation allowance and part-time use of a Quaker Center vehicle are included. A monthly stipend is provided for food and other expenses. A spouse or partner may also reside with the intern at Quaker Center. Schedule The duration and starting date of the current opening for an intern are negotiable, with a minimum of nine months and a maximum of eighteen months. The next internship appointment will begin in early 2011. Qualifications The intern should have the following qualifications: Timeline Quaker Center is accepting applications until October 31, 2010.
