Halliburton's board of directors also increased its common stock purchase authorization by $4.8 billion to $6 billion. Separately, the firm said Jeff Miller, currently the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer, has been elevated to the role of president. He has also been appointed to the Halliburton Board of Directors. Both changes are effective August 1. In this new role, Miller will complement the leadership of Dave Lesar, Halliburton's chairman and chief executive officer. Miller has served as Halliburton's executive vice president and COO since 2012. He has worked with the company's senior management team in developing and executing operational strategy. He began his career at Halliburton in 1997 and has held various senior management roles in the company's global operations and business development. HAL gained 0.8 percent on Friday to close at $70.93.
Altisource Portfolio Solutions S.A. ( ASPS : Quote ) Monday agreed to acquire Mortgage Builder Software Inc, a provider of mortgage loan origination and servicing software systems. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Altisource, which provides marketplace and transaction solutions provider for the real estate, mortgage and consumer debt industries, said the deal, combined with the recent acquisition of Equator LLC, will extend Altisource's position as a market leader for real estate and mortgage lifecycle management technologies and marketplace services. The deal will also help the company to furtherdiversify its customer base by providing software solutions to leading mortgage banks, credit unions and financial institutions in the United States.
The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index is down 37.82 points or 0.25 percent at 15,228.75. On Friday, the index closed up 62.09 points or 0.41 percent at 15,266.57, after scaling a new all-time intraday high of 15,291.15. The Capped Energy Index is declining 0.5 percent. Encana Corporation (ECA.TO) is lower by over 1 percent. Encana Corp. is reportedly planning to sell its Deep Panuke natural gas project by the end of this year. Athabasca Oil Corporation (ATH.TO) is losing 1.6 percent. Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.TO), Cenovus Energy (CVE.TO), Imperial Oil (IMO.TO), Talisman Energy (TLM.TO) and ARC Resources (ARC.TO) are down 0.5 to 1.2 percent. The Diversified Metals index is lower by 0.3 percent. Lundin Mining Corporation (LUN.TO) is down 1.5 percent and Turquoise Hill Resources (TRQ.TO) is losing 0.5 percent, while HudBay Minerals (HBD.TO) and Sherritt International Corporation (S.TO) are moving up 0.7 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively. Gold stocks Barrick Gold Corporation (ABX.TO) and First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) are lower by 1.2 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. Among healthcare stocks, Valeant Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VRX.TO) is rising nearly 2 percent.
