Weather Blocking Material (approved flashing) : The ICC Evaluation Legacy Reports and the Tile Manufacturer's Installation Manuals require weather-blocking material (approved flashing) to be installed. From the 2010 Tile Manufacturer's Manual " Openings at the hips, ridges, and headwalls including chimneys, skylights, solar panels, and down slope horizontal abutments shall be fitted with weather blocking material to keep water on the surface of the field tile" . It is also required for flashing at jacks and vents. Flashing on the surface of a tile roof is needed in areas where debris can accumulate as also stated in the manufacturer's manual and is common sense. Debris will accumulate just from trees in all areas. All other types of roofing material have always required flashing to be placed so that the water is kept on the surface of the field roofing material for obvious reasons.has contracted our Roof Inspection Service to several Metro Denver City/County Building Departments as their sole or major residential and/or commercial roof inspector. We performed Code Compliance Inspections for all types of Roof Installations including concrete tile roofing, cedar shakes, asphalt shingles, and most flat roofing membranes plus many other alternative types of roofing materials. Some have used our company when hailstorms have damaged the roofs in their area. As a private contractor, we inspected most of the residential and commercial re-roof inspections for the City of Aurora, Colorado from February, 1999 through and until June, 2007 when new construction in the home building industry slowed due to the mortgage industry collapse and low City/County revenues. From May, 2005 until August, 2009 our company was contracted to inspect all the residential and commercial new roof construction and re-roof installations for the City of Greenwood Village, Colorado, again ending due to the slow down in new construction and low City/County revenues.

Do not work on roofs without the proper rubber soled shoes and safety harness. Do not even think about working on slopes with more than a 5:12 pitch unless you have experience and feel comfortable walking where your footing is less than sure. At 5:12 and more, sliding or slipping on a roof becomes imminent and the danger of falling greatly increases. It is better to leave the installation of roofing to the professional roofers who have the experience and the equipment to walk around on steeper sloped roofs.
