The history of Reaxis Inc. dates back to 1935 with the incorporation of Pitt Metals, and the company initiated the manufacture of inorganic tin compounds in the 1970s. Pitt Metals was acquired by Th. Goldschmidt, AG of Essen, Germany in 1993 and the company became Goldschmidt Industrial Chemical Corporation. Goldschmidt was subsequently acquired by Degussa (now Evonik) in 1995. In 2006, Goldschmidt became an independent company, fully owned by management. The company name was officially changed to Reaxis Inc. in 2008.
