AUDITIONS CINEMA Oct. 10: “LunaFest” Film Festival-The fall series of MATRIX:MIDLAND Cinema will offer “LUNAFEST”-a national traveling festival of short films by, for, and about women! The festival will feature works by notable and up-and-coming women filmmakers. From accomplished filmmakers and aspiring indie shorts, to amateur filmmakers and film students, LUNAFEST looks at films from around the globe. Filled with stories of reflection and whimsy, hope and humor, grace and perseverance, LUNAFEST films are renowned for celebrating the talents and stories of women. From comical animation to hard-hitting documentaries, LUNAFEST films captivate audiences, compel dialogue and arm those who participate with both the knowledge and the motivation to make a difference in their communities. LUNAFEST promotes women filmmakers, raises awareness for women’s issues, and supports worthy women’s nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada. 100 % of all proceeds are donated to charity! 15% to the Breast Cancer Fund and remaining 85% of proceeds go directly back to hosting community organizations. The LUNAFEST Film Festival is cosponsored by Shelterhouse, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. LUNAFEST will take place at 3pm in the Little Theatre at the Midland Center for the Arts, (MCFTA), 1801 West St. Andrews Road, Midland. Oct. 11: TRICAP Film Festival Presents “Blood in the Face”, (1991, 78 min.) Michael Moore was one of the interviewers for this documentary on a Michigan gathering gathering of white power groups: Nazis, Christian Identity, the Order, KKK, etc. Bonus Film-“Slouching Toward Bethlehem: America After 2004”-(2006, 12 min.)-The apocalyptic Christian Right works with the neo-conservatives to advance both their agendas. Films will be held at 6pm at the Zauel Library, 3100 N. Center Road, Saginaw. (Corner of Center at Shattuck). Oct. 15,16,17: “The Secret in Their Eyes”-Part of the fall series of MATRIX:MIDLAND Cinema. This crime drama interweaves a gritty and politically charged ‘whodunit’ with generation-spanning romances, all the elements of classic cinema at its finest. Haunted by the memory of a brutal murder case for over 25 years, retired court investigator Benjamin Esposito decides to write about the crime to exorcise his inner demons.
