Richard began his professional career as a psychotherapist. He ran a successful practice for upwards of ten years when, at the encouragement of his clients (mostly business executives), he decided to make the switch to executive coaching. Despite the limited knowledge of executive coaching at the time (Richard was one of the first executive coaches in the country), Richard thrived on referrals from satisfied customers and the rest, as they say, is history. Unlike his work as a therapist, Richard realized that he was most beneficial when going out into the field and meeting his clients in their actual work environments. While in these settings, he realized he could not personally address the full range of needs his clients were trying to meet (as the old adage goes, jack of all trades – master of none) and thus his cohort of associates grew. His mission was simple: find the best and the most seasoned coaches capable of helping his clients meet a wide range of business, leadership, and communication needs. Since those days, Richard has joined business advisor Barrie Greiff in the writing of the Boston Business Journals’s very popular column As We Live And Work and collaborated with a dedicated group of leading-edge thinkers to co-write the book Shared Purpose. His paper on Children & Stress received worldwide recognition after the traumatic events of September 11th. It was distributed to all schools and daycare centers in New York City and, by the end of that day, had been distributed internationally by the United Nations. Richard was also the co-creator of The Center on Work and Family, which was housed at Boston University, where he worked from 1988-1991. Years later, the Center moved to Boston College. Today, Richard Levin & Associates boasts a North American network of 33 coaches and claims one of the most recognized names in coaching. This is mostly credited to the firm’s Lead By Example mantra.
