Description
Concord, NH – Riverbend Community Mental Health was awarded a $5,000 grant from TD Charitable Foundation in support of the Riverbend Farm Program. The grant will provide people with a severe mental illness the opportunity to develop pre-employment skills and learn about healthy nutrition while working at Owen Farm located in Hopkinton, NH. “I am grateful that TD Charitable Foundation is helping us sustain this program in the year ahead,” states Allan M.
The Mill House program consists of 19 private (one bedroom and studio) non-smoking apartments for individuals with low income who are in need of moderate levels of staff support to address their psychiatric symptoms and functional impairments. The program’s goal is to promote recovery and the highest level of independent living. Residential staff work with tenants providing functional support services to resident consumers in their apartments, the facility and the community.
In SHAPE began through a Center for Disease Control (CDC) grant which was conducted through Dartmouth Medical School and is now being offered to CSP consumers as a Functional Support Service. It is aimed at improving the physical health and quality of life of people with serious mental illness. The In Shape staff are trained to address the symptoms and functional impairment affecting a consumer’s ability to manage his/her health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition.

Concord Hospital is among a handful of hospitals in New England to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) which is a safe, painless, noninvasive treatment for depression that uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate the brain. Patients may be eligible for TMS if antidepressant medication use or other treatments have been ineffective. A typical course of TMS therapy consists of 20 to 30 sessions, each lasting about 40 minutes. No anesthesia or sedation is needed. The most common side effect after treatment is a slight headache.
