Description
Riverside, Calif. – In front of the Board of Public Utilities, friends, family, and their art teacher, La Sierra High School junior Ana Fuentes, and senior Antonio Valadez were recognized today for taking top honors in Riverside Public Utilities' 12th Annual Bottled Water Label Art Contest. The Utilities hosts the art contest each year to encourage Riverside high school artists to use their creative skills to come up with designs that will be used on bottled water that is distributed through the Utility's “Splash Into Cash ” fundraiser program. All the bottles distributed through Splash Into Cash feature unique designs created by Riverside's student artists. And many, like this year's winners, have been from La Sierra High School. In fact, at least one student from La Sierra high has been honored in the contest eight of its twelve years. Additionally, it is the third time that both contest categories were won by La Sierra students. Each student received a $250 cash prize for their efforts, while their art teacher, Angel Gomez, received a $100 gift certificate to a local art supply store. “I am very proud of them and their talents, ” Gomez said. “I was just hoping that at least one of my students would win, because that's been the average, but I was very excited to find out that two of my students from my first year of teaching won these awards. ” This year's winning entries can be viewed at RiversidePublicUtilities.com/Art #### Established in 1895, Riverside Public Utilities is a consumer-owned water and electric utility governed by a Board of nine community volunteers that provides high quality, reliable services to over 105,000 metered electric customers and 63,000 metered water customers throughout the City of Riverside.
