Strategic technological advancement was a priority for BMI and in 2003 Bob and his Strategic Development team realized the advancements being made in audio recognition technologies and the value they could provide BMI. Based on Bob’s recommendation and after extensive research and testing BMI acquired an advanced, patented audio recognition technology from Shazam Entertainment in London. BMI created a wholly owned subsidiary, Landmark Digital Services, to exploit the technology for use by BMI and to provide products and services to third parties. Bob was named Managing Director for the subsidiary and helped to build the organization from the ground up. Landmark currently employs more than 50 people and monitors broadcast sources to provide millions of audio recognitions per month to BMI and third party customers globally. The company has been recognized for its technology advancements and was named the “Innovator of the Year” for 2009 by the Nashville Music Awards.
