In 1982, Bob Davis left the cattle business for a construction job with a Bedford pool company. There quickly learned the trade of pool building, and with a disciplined ethic, Bob soon became a valuable asset to the company. In June, 1984 Bob chose to start his own pool construction company, Aqua Pros. Bob's belief was simple and is the same today, "If we build the best swimming pools possible and pay attention to the details, we'll build a good business and most importantly, lets make sure the customer is satisfied." Now Aqua Pros has three locations on Timberlake Rd in Lynchburg, Rt.122 in Bedford and Dixie Airport Rd. in Madison Heights.Bob never rests on his laurels and is always looking for ways to expand Aqua Pro's horizons. He remarks, "I was reading a pool magazine one day in 1985 and got interested in spas." After some research, we settled on a spa we felt comfortable with. I remember thinking since our reputation will be built on providing the best pools in the area, our spas have to be the highest quality, easiest to maintain, and the most reliable." Bob reminisces, "We'd take our spas to places like the Brookville Fireman's fair on a lowboy trailer we'd also advertise in the newspaper that we'd bring a spa to your house for a demonstration. I wasn't the busiest builder in 1985 and we thought spas would be a good fit for us."Aqua Pros opened its first store in 1986 in a small building (Rt.122) in Bedford. Bob and wife Mary decided the store would help sell more pools. With this new retail endeavor Aqua Pros needed a manager, Bob says, "It took a lot of persuasion to convince Mary she'd make the perfect store manager." Bob's persuasion paid off though, as Mary managed until the arrival of their first child. Bob and Mary decided their children deserved time and attention first and Mary became a fulltime homemaker starting in 1989. "That transition forced us to grow beyond our comfort level in Aqua Pro's retail efforts." Bob is a firm believer in growing his business and Aqua Pros opened it's second store in 1996 on Timberlake Rd. In ' 97 they opened their third store in Madison Heights. Today, Aqua Pros serves a large area from Charlottesville to West Virginia. Its retail division carries high end lifestyle products including spas, tanning beds, gas logs, saunas, and wood stoves. Aqua Pros carries the distinction of being the areas only BioGuard Insignia Dealer, a leading chemical manufacturer for the pool and spa industries. BioGuard offers a unique computerized water analysis, which is probably our most valuable service to our pool and spa customers.
