Faced with San Francisco’s rapidly changing real estate market, Root Division announces that it will lose its current space in the Mission District and will need to relocate in Summer 2014 . Root Division has resided at 3175 17th Street for more than nine years and has witnessed market rate rents triple in the neighborhood. Despite good faith negotiations on both sides, Root Division and its landlord were unable to find a rent structure that was agreeable for both parties.

Root Division is an arts and arts education non-profit located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Root Division's mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration and community participation. We provide subsidized studio space to working artists in exchange for their service in creating shared learning opportunities for the community. Artists develop creatively and professionally by teaching art to underserved youth, leading adult education classes, and producing exhibitions that showcase local emerging artwork.

Root Division is thrilled to announce our new pop-up location at 1059 Market Street between 6th and 7th Streets in San Francisco . On the same block as other arts organizations (The Luggage Store and SF Camerawork), and amidst a collection of retail, tech companies, and other non-profits, we look forward to a high visibility storefront and new partnerships in Mid-Market during the coming months. We are delighted that the convenient location on Market Street offers a perfect place for our studio artists to land while we continue our search for a long-term home.
