In the 1930’s, Marvin Arthur Biggs worked for a Chicago-based company that owned a large number of small Kansas telephone exchanges. When that company filed for bankruptcy in 1939, Marvin accepted a contract to purchase the Scranton exchange with its 250 subscribers and the Allen exchange with its 130 subscribers. The Biggs family lived in the central office and operated the switchboard 24 hours a day. Around 1969, the farmer-owned, Admire exchange was added to the company's holdings.
