SMI has designed and manufactured a variety of custom MEMS, including ultra-miniature catheter sensors, strain sensors, humidity sensors, accelerometers, custom pressure sensors and precision capacitive devices. It has leveraged its experience in these areas to bring added value to its core pressure sensor product line.With its high-volume production facility for cutting edge automotive and medical pressure sensors SMI has developed a deep understanding of Design for Manufacturability methods.

For many years pressure sensors have been used in a wide range of automotive applications. Automotive design engineers typically use pressure sensors in four application areas: engine management, emission control, active and passive safety enhancement and seat comfort. SMI has served the automotive market with its high quality products for many years.

David Kertes joined SMI in 2013. He manages the Global Sales Team, Customer Service, and Field Sales Engineers. He has been involved in Selling and Marketing sensors (Pressure, Accelerometers, and Position) for over 20 years in various markets (Automotive, Medical, Industrial, Test and Measurement, Aerospace, Defense, Energy, HVAC, and Consumer). He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing at San Jose State University.

SMI is one of the few companies with a high-volume automotive grade MEMS production facility in Silicon Valley. Since 2009, SMI has invested several millions of dollars in state-of-the-art MEMS equipment. While we do not operate as a foundry, SMI still provides custom technology development and grants access to its fab. SMI has a history of successful collaboration with various start-ups with products ranging from photovoltaics (PV) and solar to bioMEMS and Energy Harvesting applications.
