SOHA Engineers specializes in earthquake-resistant design, and seismic evaluation and retrofit of buildings and bridges. The firm has extensive experience in seismic rehabilitation and historic renovation of existing structures. It requires a good understanding of the behavior of various structural materials, knowledge of the latest code developments and their applications, and experience in construction practices. SOHA also has experience in the application of seismic protective systems (i.e., base isolation and energy dissipation).

In 1987, the firm changed its name to SOH & Associates, Structural Engineers . The firm remained in the Maybeck Building for more than 25 years until it moved to Marathon Plaza in the early 1990s. In 1990, Frankie Lee was named President and Chief Executive Officer. In the ensuing years, the firm grew and diversified into broader services and project types, and added a Bridge & Transportation Division. In 1997, the firm became SOHA Engineers . SOHA Engineers is part of a team that provides services in the analysis and design of the superstructure of the causeway, analysis and design of the tower for the signature span, nonlinear static and dynamic analysis and design of seismic protective systems. The new bridge for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span replacement is a 2.1-mile-long structure consisting of a Signature Span and a Causeway connecting the tunnel at Yerba Buena Island to Oakland.
