A big congratulations to SWA's newest Principal in our Houston Office, James Vick , AIA! James is an architect and planner. With thirty years of professional experience in the Americas, Middle East, Europe, and Asia, his interest lies in working with communities in shaping their neighborhoods, districts, towns, and cities through collaborative planning and design strategies. His project experience includes the planning and design of civic places, mixed-use districts, new communities, parks, and open space systems. "It's a gift to work with groups of people to create road maps that tie together the distinct social, political, and spatial dimensions that define that community. These are journeys of hope, expectation, and achievement, and the outcomes can be transformative!" Congratulations also goes out to the seven new associates, Amy Benoit Harbert (Houston), Henry Dalton (Dallas), Al Dewitt (Sausalito), Grace Gao (Los Angeles), Josh Lock (Houston), Mandana Parvinian (Sausalito), and Peng Xu (Houston).

SWA Group has announced the 2012 winners of our Patrick Curran Fellowship program, an internal research award that seeks to further the art and science of landscape architecture. Ten proposals were selected out of 29 applications, ranging from research in social entrepreneurship to an investigation of urban villages in Guangzhou, China. The research supports our mission and firm's reputation as a world leader in landscape architecture. Fellows receive paid time off to work on their project in addition to up to $10,000 in expenses. SWA will also be releasing quarterly Newsletters to share firm news, exciting project updates, and updates to our practice and work as we continue to create. We hope to give you a glimpse into the bustling studios we have around the country and world and share some of our current thoughts and ideas with our peers and partners.

In the public sector, we design civic complexes, parks, waterfronts, and other key spaces. We provide "green" urban design of cities and infrastructure. We create plans for open space and nature preserves.
