San Mateo Credit Union

Description

In 1952 a group of San Mateo County employees created an organization called the San Mateo County Employees Credit Union. This state-chartered institution was initially founded to meet the financial needs of county workers. In 1973, the field of membership was expanded to include employees of most cities and municipalities in the county. In the 1980s, individual companies and organizations were welcomed to join. The name was changed to San Mateo Credit Union (SMCU) in 1991, and a Community Charter granted in 1999 further broadened our membership. Today, any individual who lives, regularly works, or attends school in San Mateo County is eligible to join.Serving our members well — both now and in the future — has always been the cornerstone of San Mateo Credit Union's approach to doing business. In support of this commitment, we are dedicated to a philosophy that defines SMCU as a place Where People Are Worth More Than Money™.
