Editing We edit manuscripts for standard English usage, conventional scientific usage, organization, internal consistency, clarity, accuracy, conciseness, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. We also check tables and figures for proper formatting and for agreement with the text. When an author’s native language is not English, we make it sound as if it is. But be prepared: suggested changes are sometimes extensive. Occasionally, editing is not enough, and a manuscript must be rewritten . All editing is done electronically. Changes can be viewed (with Word’s “Compare and Merge Documents” tool, for example), and authors can consider each editing suggestion before incorporating it into their final document.
