s e a t t l e p r e p a r a t o r y s c h o o lIn 1893, two Jesuit Fathers of the Roman Catholic Church opened a school for boys in St. Francis hall at Sixth Avenue and Spring Street. The school was first incorporated as Immaculate Conception School in 1893 and included classes on the high school and college levels. By 1898 the school moved to a new campus at Broadway and Madison Streets on First Hill, and in that year the name was changed to Seattle College. the Jesuits acquired a seven-acre tract and two buildings at the present site of Seattle Preparatory School. In 1933 Seattle College High School was renamed Seattle Prep.Meanwhile the First Hill location became the permanent site of Seattle College, which was later named Seattle University. Under the direction of the Jesuit Fathers, Seattle Prep became known for scholastic leadership, service to the community and competitiveness in interscholastic athletics. The school consistently graduated students with a sound education that stressed self-discipline, moral awareness and the responsibility of becoming “men for others.”
