Founded in 2004 by Pacific Northwest native, Scott Swerland, Seattle Sun Tan has quickly become an industry leader. In 2007 it was recognized within the "Top 15 salon chains in the US" by ETS Tan (the world's largest distributor and manufacturer of tanning equipment and products). Since its inception, Seattle Sun Tan has continually worked to be an innovative company within the tanning industry. With the opening of the first store in Bellevue the tanning superstore concept was born. Seattle Sun Tan locations have 12 to 23 rooms and range 2000 to over 4,000 square feet per facility, which is significantly larger than traditional tanning salons. In addition to the increased square footage Seattle Sun Tan's offer a cutting edge design not found in any other local salon chain. With original paintings, blown glass chandeliers, and unique sculptures from local artists, Seattle Sun Tan salons create a welcoming and warm atmosphere for all clients. This concept has been given rave reviews for its hospital cleanliness, Smart Tan certified staff, 5 levels of tanning, and wide array of premium skin care choices (featuring Australian Gold and Swedish Beauty). The immediate successes of the superstore concept lead to the openings of the locations in Redmond Town Center, University Village and Bothell/Mill Creek. These four stores create the foundation of expansion for Seattle Sun Tan as it worked to grow to 12-plus stores by 2011. However, with persistance and great teamwork, Seattle Sun Tan was able to expand to 15 stores by February 2009. The 10 new additions to the Seattle Sun Tan family are located in the cities of Bellevue, Kent, Maple Valley, Enumclaw, Covington, and Fife. The 15 stores immediately makes Seattle Sun Tan one of the largest salon chains in the Northwest, with a new goal to reach 25 salons by 2012.
