Germain's focus on seed technology interests began in the later 1940s with our introduction in the USA of one of the very first seed pellets. This innovation grew out of the company's expertise in seed, developed since its foundation in California in 1871. Germain's seed technology interests were acquired in 1990 by Associated British Foods plc, a world leading, multi-billion dollar food and agri-business, under whose continued ownership our Group has achieved substantial growth. Whilst successfully developing our home markets, we extended our global reach through the acquisition of new businesses in Europe and the USA, the installation of new plants in Poland and the USA, and securing major technology transfer projects in Eastern Europe, Africa, Australasia and South America. Germain's, now headquartered in the UK, operates independently from any seed or agrochemical parentage and therefore offers impartial and innovative seed technology solutions, in association with the entire agricultural industry.
