However, current PM products seem to have forgotten their original purpose, to help those who do projects to increase their likelihood of success. Today's offerings are packed with bells and whistles, the majority of which are unimportant for most project managers. Because of 20 years of feature-creep, PM software products are exceedingly difficult to use, often requiring training for the first-time or occasional user. Projects are Completed by Teams Projects are not done by individuals or by project managers, but by a wide range of individual contributors, small teams, departments, outside suppliers, and others of all types. Current PM software tools are designed to be used by one individual in that vast array of contributors. However, the project manager does not have all the knowledge of the project; rather, this knowledge is distributed among all the contributors.
