Shepherd Caster Corporation is an affiliate of the Colson Group, Incorporated and a Colson Associates Company. Colson Associates is an international association of autonomous manufacturing and service companies. The Colson Group, Incorporated and its affiliates manufacture and market casters, wheels and related products. Together these companies are the world leader in the production of light-duty to heavy-duty casters. They operate 23 plants in 11 countries HISTORY In 1945 George Shepherd had a problem. While playing bridge with his friends and family, he found it difficult to get comfortable while sitting. The chairs in those days were not designed for moving on carpeting. He set out to design a chair with casters. After many years of designing, prototyping and testing, the original Shepherd Planet Ball Caster was born. This began a legacy of well-engineered, high-quality Shepherd casters. In 1976, the first die cast twin wheel, the Pacer, was put into production at Shepherd. This product allowed us to expand our market presence beyond home furnishings and into the growing office seating market. As mobility became increasingly important in everyday life, we continued to expand into light industrial, store fixture, and appliance markets with several lines of single wheel casters. From there our product line has further expanded to include casters for the medical and food service marketplace. In 2001 Shepherd purchased Bassick Casters to expand into the business machine, material handling and MRO markets. A subsequent 2008 joint aquisition of the Faultless brand allowed Shepherd to continue to expand our product line and further penentrate the material handling and business machine markets. Today, along with many other new and innovative designs that have been developed for customers, all of these casters are still in production at Shepherd Caster Corporation.
