Shields has been a pioneer in the Electronic Medical Records theory with the innovation of Shields Express Link and health care system integration. Express Link is just one way we have provided physicians with immediate on-line access to viewing patient images and reports. We have also worked closely with our partner hospitals to provide the information that is necessary to integrate into their EMR systems residing with all of their other medical outcomes.

Shields MRI was the first in Massachusetts to provide MRI services independent from a hospital. After 48 hours, MRI is the preferred brain imaging technique. MRI may be helpful in evaluating those patients with prolonged symptoms, or postconcussion syndrome. Shields MRI’s radiologist, Dr. Eric Schwartz, who has specialized experience in MRI for concussion comments, “While standard MRI studies are often negative following concussion, advanced MRI techniques that are being investigated may improve diagnosis of brain injury. Susceptibility MRI is a new technique that improves visibility of small brain hemorrhages.
