Beginning March 2007, SPP has accomplished the following: two nano-particle intravenous formulations of curcumin (liposomal, and polymeric) and one slow-release nanoparticle formulation(Depot nanocurcumin) in-licensed from three universities. Manufacture scale up, and anticancer proof of principle studies with the liposomal formulation of curcumin have been completed and are positive. Rat and dog toxicity and pharmacokinetic studies are ongoing for submission of an IND. We anticipate submission 1st Q 2009 to FDA and EMEA. A European Phase 1 dose finding trial in volunteers is planned for 1st Q 2009, to be followed by two phase II trials: pancreatic cancer, and bone lysis from metastatic tumors (prostate, breast, lung cancers and multiple myeloma). Future trials of liposomal curcumin in 2009 and 2010 will include other inflammatory, soft tissue and neural degenerative and parasitic diseases (arthritis, neurofibromatosis, malaria.) Phase I/II comparative trials with the polymeric and slow-release formulations will followin 2009 and 2010 in responsive indications.
