Silicon Associates was established in 1987 as a network systems engineering company in the Bay Area of California, otherwise known as Silicon Valley. Nearly immediately gaining contracs with multiple top-tier clients such as Silicon Graphics, Incorporated (SGI supercomputers were used to create hallmark films such as Jurassic Park) and Network Appliance (NetApp is a multi-national company whose data storage devices are used by Yahoo and other major internet companies) allowed the company to expand in other technology areas while not losing focus on its core competence. While today SAI is a diverified investment bank, it still maintains a profitable presence in the very same business activity it did on day 1: UNIX systems administration consulting. SAI is primarily an investment bank, consulting firm and principal in a number of ventures and investments. It holds a significant interest in a real estate investment group, with diversified residential and commercial investments across the United States, with major investments primarily in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Central Florida and Seattle. Silicon Associates is a majority stakeholder in a highly successful lsubsidiary commercial/residential mortgage and commercial finance company, MyLoanMarket.com. In its investment banking endeavor -- a business SAI entered in the mid 1990s -- business is derived from all over the world, but primarily in the United States, Carribean, and in Spanish-speaking, Portoguese-speaking and Guarani-speaking Latin America. All major investment banking areas are covered by IBR (Investment Banking-Related, department) in some fashion, though not always revenue-based but rather some are referred out on a no fee basis. This is especially true where licensing is a prerequisite for a particular client's needs. The majority of Silicon Associates finance activities stem from live deals where it would be inappropriate to seek the assistance of a bulge bracket firm, or even many boutique companies who aim to fill that roll. Generally, SAI will raise capital, trade securities, manages selected mergers and acquisitions. Though SAI and its affiliates have been involved in various transactions with the government, IBR has not specifically done so for government agencies. SAI offers strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions, divestiture or other financial services for clients, such as the trading of derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodity, and equity securities. Silicon Associates is proud of the synergies created by its various departments' overlap and the associated producitivity increases generated. Strategy advisory services for M&A, divestiture, etc., as part of IBR are distinct, however, from strategic consulting performed as part of Silicon Associates' SMC division (Strategy & Management Consulting). SAI advises clients in this endeavor with an aim of helping its organization clients improve perfomance. This is executed primarily through the analysis of existing business issues and the subsequent creation of improvement plans.
