Hank began his adjusting career in 1949 as an auto, fire and allied lines adjuster. In 1954, he took a position with General Adjustment Bureau (GAB) in their Jonesboro, Arkansas, office. He was later transferred to Blytheville, Arkansas, as manager, where he officially began his experience in the area of cotton losses. He was later transferred to Lubbock, Texas, as Manager in 1960.
