In the early 1900's, Morris and Minnie Slavin opened a small fish store in Brooklyn, New York in order to support their growing family. As soon as their sons Herb, Jack and Barry were old enough, they joined their parents in what was the beginning of the Slavin organization. An extraordinary amount of hard work and self-sacrifice during the early years went into building of the multifaceted company that is today M.Slavin & Sons, Ltd.The Fulton Fish Market has been in existance since 1869 and has been a central port of commerce in the New York City area. Close to the settlements, fishermen were able to dock their boat and unload their daily catches in time for each day's market. This was a new era of wholesalers bringing fish in and selling by push cart to the trade and the general public. The pushcarts have been replaced by trucks and hi-lows, but the cobblestone streets and the unique flavor of the old Fulton Fish Market remain virtually unchanged.
