02-May-2012 Our company is located in Seattle, Washington and is specialized in providing technical services and repairs to commercial and government marine propulsion systems; including controllable pitch propellers, bow thrusters, electronic and pneumatic control systems and stern tube sealing systems. We are looking for a seasoned Field Service Technician: Applicant must have minimum 5 years working knowledge of commercial marine propulsion systems as fore-mentioned above, and the technical skills to match. Applicant must be proficient with the reading and recording of measurements (using dial measuring instruments), and must be able to read and understand mechanical & hydraulic blueprints. Applicant must be skilled with using a computer (Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent and email) to communicate business matters and job reporting. Must be comfortable working independently on a project with communicating information to proper vessel chains of command, and have the ability to provide direction to shipyard workers. Travel will be required to local area shipyards, as well as some out of state locations. Standard shipyard rigging and safety practice knowledge is required.

Our technicians are proficient in servicing fixed and controllable-pitched propeller systems, shafting, bow thrusters and stern tube seals. We have established positive working relationships with suppliers and technical contacts within the industry that helps our business to produce very efficiently, which limits customers’ down time. Cliff Burns was working as an elementary school teacher when he started as a part time employee with Seattle’s Coolidge Propeller in 1966. He worked in production, foundry, the finishing shop, and the machine shop, as well as in sales and engineering. After spending many years assisting the general manager, he retired from teaching and started working full time at Coolidge. His hands on training and experience working with vessel operators has helped him to engineer the most practical solutions in propulsion requirements. Cliff has a vast knowledge in propeller sizing, drawing, design, and manufacturing. He is very experienced in computer program design and utilization, profit loss accounting, business plan development and implementation. Both Sound Propeller locations benefit greatly from the professionalism, knowledge, and experience that Cliff is able to provide. He puts his personal touch on each propeller design that has resulted in better performance and fuel savings for you, our customers!.
