Established in 1997, SE Works is a community-based workforce development organization providing employment, training and supportive services. Our mission is to strengthen the economic health and well being of our diverse southeast Portland community by increasing access to employment, educational, and supportive services.SE Works grew out of a community-based planning process begun in 1995 that identified a significant demand for workforce development services in southeast Portland. Since we opened our doors in May 1997, we've evolved into a strong organization, offering a range of resources to meet the employment and training needs of job seekers and employers. Despite our growth, we honor our origins as a neighborhood-based, grassroots organization. We remain true to the vision of creating a friendly, welcoming environment, providing "damn good" customer service, and bringing resources tailored to our diverse community.Our efforts are led by a dedicated Board of Directors made up of community members, local businesses, part participants, and key partners. At any given time, we have representation from both local and regional employers. Many board members are residents from area neighborhoods, employed by non-profits with a common emphasis on community development, or are past participants in our program. They bring expertise in education, manufacturing, human resources, housing, finance, employment law, and community justice. Board members bring a diverse set of critical skills and experience that ensures services are responsive to, and reflective of, southeast Portland neighborhoods.
