As I got closer, I knew I was in the right place. I started to feel a little more at-ease with my environment, like I had been there before… but I hadn’t. Maybe it was all the cars littered with bike racks, the guy walking on the sidewalk with a bare road frame, or maybe it was the oh-so-familiar blue Shimano logo pasted on the side of that massive building in the corner. Yes, I managed to find Shimano America within the confines of the majestic Irvine, California. [for those of you who do not know about Irvine, do a little research and find out just how crazy its concept, design and economy is] I pushed some big glass doors aside to reveal a quaint, comfortable room littered with organized photography, environmental activist philosophies and jerseys signed by the biggest names in cycling. A short time later I met the friendly face of Leo Garcia, Shimano’s Event Specialist. After a brief introduction of the headquarters and some solid company information, we went on to tour the facility.
