STAIRDESIGN, Inc was founded in 1995. After graduation from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering in 1987, Todd Francis got a job as a Manufacturing Engineer with a company that made freestanding circular stairs in Newburyport, Mass. After 8 years at that job, it was time to move on and start a new business. In July of 1995, co-workers Todd Francis and Patricia Joyce founded STAIRDESIGN, Inc. The business found an office and manufacturing facility in Ipswich, MA, but quickly outgrew that space. Their previous employers, having dissolved their manufacturing company, had moved out of their old facility. As luck would have it, it became available at the same time STAIRDESIGN, Inc needed more space. Moving into it current location in August of 1996, the company continued to grow. In January of 2005 Patricia Joyce sold her shares of the business to Todd Francis, and has relocated to Columbia SC. All of us here at STAIRDESIGN wish Pat the best in the future. We never could have done it without her, and will always be grateful for her years of leadership and hard work.
