StanCorp was established as a holding company in 1998 to facilitate the demutualization of Standard Insurance Company. On April 16, 1999, StanCorp issued its first publicly traded shares on the New York Stock Exchange, under the stock symbol “SFG.”StanCorp's principal subsidiaries, which are marketed as The Standard, include Standard Insurance Company, The Standard Life Insurance Company of New York and StanCorp Investment Advisers.
