Description

There was a certain ceremononious harmony in Leslie presenting the award to Almeda, who is carrying on a family business started by her grandfather. Star Detective and Security Agency was started by Luegemus "Captain" Bratton, a son of slaves, in 1923. Mr. Bratton started the agency in Chicago's tough south side, providing security and bodyguard services to recent immigrants pursuing their own American dream. Soon the agency was working in area hotels and providing detective services as well.

Almeda is the third generation CEO of Star Detective and Security Agency, Inc, founded in 1923. It is Chicago’s oldest family operated licensed detective agency. She has a solid grasp of the problems facing the security industry and is knowledgeable about issues affecting private investigators today. She has written literally hundreds of letters to regulators and legislators at all levels of government over concerns affecting both sectors of our profession and appeared before regulators and legislators at every level of government.

Star Detective & Security Agency, Inc. was founded in 1923 by Luegemus Bratton, a pioneer in the field of security. The son of slaves, Bratton came to Chicago with only the skill of his hands, the strength of his mind and the motivation to have his own business.

SDSA was founded in 1923 Luegemus Bratton, a pioneer in the field of security and investigations. He is credited for coining the phrase "door shaker" because he literally went from store to store in the middle of the night checking the front and back doors of business to make sure they were securely fastened. Bratton soon opened his own office as his business grew. Bratton was always on the cutting edge, improving his knowledge base by attending classes about fingerprints, weapons and sophisticated security methods.
