Since 1902, State Bank of Park Rapids has operated as a family business for five generations. In this decade when only one-third of the family businesses in the U.S. survive into the second generation, surviving into the fifth generation is a remarkable achievement. State Bank was first organized by W.R.B. Smyth, great-grandfather of John "Jack" Smythe. The Smythe family has a record of over one hundred fifty years in banking.
