Bob is a Dean, Professor of Psychology, and Adjunct Professor of Education at a university in the Boston area. Formerly, he was IBM Professor of Psychology and Education in the Department of Psychology, Professor of Management in the School of Management, and Director of the Center for the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies, and Expertise at Yale. This Center is dedicated to the advancement of theory, research, practice, and policy advancing the notion of intelligence as developing expertise—as a construct that is modifiable and capable, to some extent, of development throughout the life span. The Center seeks to have an impact on science, on education, and on society. Bob’s PhD is from Stanford and he has 10 honorary doctorates. Bob was the 2003 President of the American Psychological Association and was the 2006-2007 President of the Eastern Psychological Association. He is President-Elect of the International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology. He was on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association (2002-2004) and on the Board of Trustees of the APA Insurance Trust (2004) and of the American Psychological Foundation (2005-2007). He is on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Psychological Association (2005-2008) and of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (2007-2009). He is also Chair of the Publications Committee of the American Educational Research Association. Bob has devoted his career to strengthening the interfaces among theory, research, and practice. From his early years, when he worked summers at The Psychological Corporation and the Educational Testing Service, to his later years, when he was IBM Professor of Psychology and Education and Professor of Management at Yale University, he has devoted himself to putting theory into practice. Among his collaborative projects have been the development of an assessment of tacit knowledge for managers, an assessment for college admissions, an assessment for business-school admissions, modified assessments of school achievement, the development of curricula for grades 4 through college to enhance learning for all students, and textbooks that have been published by major publishers. Bob is a sought-after speaker and has given thousands of talks to businesses, educational organizations, nonprofits, and governmental organizations. Karin's interest in making science usable for practice began early on when she studied business administration with a specialization in banking at the University of Cooperative Education in Karlsruhe, Germany. Over the course of her studies, she worked with more than 10 different departments of what is now the Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. Realizing that efficient work processes and strategies cannot be designed without knowledge of psychology (because, ultimately, they are always about people), she went on to study psychology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, which is also where she received her PhD. She has worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Toronto as well as at Kienbaum Management Consultants in Germany.
