INTRODUCTION The architectural and design build work of SSAC is not easy to categorize in the traditional sense. Founded in 1992, the firm focuses on the use of craft and materiality in the built environment. This focus is achieved by the firm ’s open mindedness to a broad range of products and materials and by incorporating these into the design and construction of all of their projects. This focus is taken one step further by working closely with those who use these materials on a daily basis thereby insuring the proper utilization of the materials and methods. As architects who have become builders, we strive to remove the artificial distinction between the two practices. For us, the architectural investigations that we undertake are never complete until the projects are built and inhabited. Ultimately, building our projects and those of others makes us better architects and gives us an advantage in being builders. The firm ’s desire is to merge the above themes with its client ’s goals, needs and aspirations. This approach creates structures and spaces that are unique and specifically tailored and which simultaneously surpass the requirements and desires of the firm ’s clients. The firm enjoys solving design problems in unique ways and prides itself on the relative simplicity of many past projects. The firm ’s solutions are never commonplace nor are they excessively unique for the sake of merely being unique. Major recent projects include construction management services for the Floating Swimming Pool, the completion of the architectural documents and complete Construction Management services for Aldo Rossi ’s last built work: The Orchard Lake Residence, The Parkridge Road Residence, a design/ build commission for a modernist house in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the design of the Giorgio Showroom on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California and Barbara ’s Paper Bag in Birmingham, Michigan. WHO WE ARE Beginning with the establishment of SSAC in 1992, this small, dynamic firm has been bringing a distinguished level of craft to the making of architecture. The pr actice focuses on residential and commercial architecture as well as construction management for these types of projects. Past projects have included architectural evaluations, historic renovations, additions, commercial build-outs, residential design, construction management and technical consulting for other architectural firms. Projects have been realized in Seattle, Detroit/Ann Arbor, New York and Beverly Hills- the firm is comfortable working on projects that are outside of the Midwest and actively seek such projects. The firm's founder and design principal, Steven Sivak, has been a licensed architect since 1989 and received his architectural degree from Harvard. Mr. Sivak has held positions with Michael Graves Architects, Skidmore Owings and Merrill and other internationally recognized firms and is also a licensed general contractor. Mr.
