Description
About Stuart Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart was founded in 1963 after a group of Princeton area women, one of whom was a Sacred Heart graduate, submitted a request to the Superior of the Washington Province of the Society of the Sacred Heart to establish a school in Princeton, New Jersey. The Society of Sacred Heart is a religious congregation of women founded by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in France in 1800 with a mission to show the love of God through education. With the help of the Society and friends in the Princeton area, a large tract of woodlands was purchased on the Great Road, and Professor Jean Labatut of Princeton University was appointed architect for the project. The school was named for Mother Janet Erskine Stuart, who was born in England in 1857, and was one of the leading and most beloved educators of the Society of the Sacred Heart.Founded on the idea it is the whole child who must be educated, Stuart is part of a rich Sacred Heart tradition and is committed to the Goals and Criteria derived from St. Madeleine Sophie’s original concept of education. Stuart is one of twenty-one members of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and a member of the international family of schools and organizations directed by the Society of the Sacred Heart, a global community spanning six continents. Consistent with those ties, Stuart’s mission includes a commitment to diversity. We welcome students of any race, creed, social, economic, or ethnic background, believing a multiplicity of companions and ideas is the essence of an effective learning experience and the best preparation for success in our increasingly complex world.Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart serves girls grades K through 12 and offers a co-educational preschool program. The school admits students of any race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin to all the rights or privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, scholarships, loan programs or athletic or other school-administered programs. Stuart serves approximately 550 students.
