Charles Sawicki, Director of Public Works e-mail csawicki@suffernvillage.com Tel: 845-357-2602 Street and Refuse Department Water and Sewer Department Wastewater Treatment Plant Waste Disposal Guide Solid Waste Pick-up: The solid waste pickup schedule for homes which are served by the Refuse Department is based upon your location as follows: Locations & Days: East of Commuter Railroad Tracks and West of Woodland Drive Monday and Thursday East of Woodland Drive (including Woodland) and West of Commuter Railroad Tracks Tuesday and Friday Recycling A) Commingled Glass, plastic, and cans are picked up on either Thursday or Friday on the day which corresponds with your regular garbage pick-up. These items may be placed in the GREEN recycling bin and put out curbside the night before pick-up. Please note that only items with the numbers 1-7 are recyclable. Plastic bags are not recycled. B) Paper Newspapers, magazines, junk-mail and cardboard are picked up every Wednesday morning. These items may be placed in BLUE recycling bin and put out at curbside on Tuesday evening. Please note that pizza boxes are not recycled. Empty corrugated cartons should be flattened and tied into manageable bundles. C) Leaves, Grass Clippings, Branches, Etc. The Refuse Department also picks up leaf bags at the street. During the fall season, pickup is on a daily roving basis throughout the Village. During the other seasons brush and leaf pick-up is done east of commuter railroad tracks and west of Woodland Drive on the first and third Wednesday and first and third Thursday of each month, and east of Woodland Drive (including Woodland) and west of commuter railroad tracks on the second and fourth Wednesday and second and fourth Thursday of each month. Brush must be securely tied and bundled and not exceed 4 feet in length for pick-up. Leaves and grass clippings will only be picked up in biodegradable paper bags or open-top containers. The above should be placed curbside after 6 p.m. the night before scheduled pick-up. Bulk Item Pick-up Bulk items are picked up on the last Wednesday of each month. Bulk Items Not Picked Up Construction materials such as: lumber cut-offs, vinyl or ceramic tiles, bricks, cement, rocks, paneling, plaster board, used lumber, floor or roofing products. No paint of any kind. Bulk Item Drop-Off Residents can dispose of waste oil, tires (off the rim), and batteries at the Street Department garage any working day during the month from 7:30am-3:00pm. Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Residents must drop off these items at the Rockland County Facility located at the Fire Training Center in Pomona.
