Symons Capital Management 650 Washington Road, Suite 800 Pittsburgh, PA 15228-2702 Telephone: (412) 344-7690 Toll free: (888) 344-7740 Fax: (412) 344-7693 Send us an email Our History The nucleus of Symons Capital Management, and of our Symons Alpha Value investment strategy, began in 1980 as a weekend research project designed for the purpose of investing the personal assets of our original founders, Ed Symons and Chuck Dollins. After giving stock "tips" to friends for several years, the pair incorporated the firm in 1983 and registered as an investment adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The firm's first two clients continue as clients to this day. The firm's original practices of investing side-by-side with clients in every stock, and of calling each client every quarter, also continue to this day. Because both of the founders were researchers rather than marketers, the firm grew solely by word-of-mouth referrals for many years. In 1997 the Symons Alpha Growth investment strategy was begun, and in June of 1997 Colin Symons, today our Chief Investment Officer, joined the firm and earned his CFA ® charter. Late in 1997 Terri Svidro, our Vice President, Administration, also joined the firm after having served in a wide array of increasingly important positions at the University of Pittsburgh, ultimately serving as Budget Director at the School of Law, responsible for managing a $20 million annual budget. Colin Symons immediately began contributing to the firm's stock research in 1997. Beginning in 1999 some of Colin's independent research ideas were used for Alpha Value stock selections, and beginning on January 1, 2000 Colin became principally responsible for all Alpha Value stock selections. Upon founder Chuck Dollins' retirement on June 30, 2001, Colin also became principally responsible for all Alpha Growth stock selections. Beginning in 2001, Symons Capital Management laid plans for systematic growth in the three critical areas of any successful investment management enterprise: research and portfolio management; business operations and recordkeeping; and client service and business development. We actively sought out colleagues who are intelligent, skilled and knowledgeable, self-starters, creative and imaginative, and team-workers who recognize that no one person is as good as all of us together. The plan began to take shape in August 2001, as Vicki Lynn Ellis, today our Chief Compliance Officer, joined us with two decades of securities industry experience, including serving as Vice President of Operations and Branch Operations Manager for Salomon Smith Barney. In May 2004 our Vice President, Research, Rich Foran, a trained biochemist, joined us after a highly successful 16-year career in clinical research at The Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pittsburgh. In January 2005, Chris Rickard, today our Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer, brought to our firm two decades of computer consulting experience covering systems and software design, installation, and administration, including service with the U.S.
