Description
For single speed starting and stopping applications, our Solid State Reduced Voltage Starters provide a cost efficient way of ramping up and down the motor speed. These starters provide smooth, step-less acceleration that limits inrush current and mechanical shock to the connected load. The EZ Start is a microprocessor controlled, 6SCR, solid state reduced voltage motor starter that has been designed to provide smooth, stepless, acceleration and deceleration control for all types of three phase squirrel cage induction motors. The reduced voltage starter is used when the application does not require adjustable speed. The reduced voltage starter is used to reduce the amount of current required to start an AC induction motor. Typically, an AC motor will pull 6 times its full load current on start up. This is acceptable for small motors, but will cause circuit breakers to trip and fuses to blow if attempted with large motors. The EZ Start starter is a solid state starter. There are no mechanical contacts to wear out as there are with the older type of electro-mechanical reduced voltage starters. The voltage to the motor is gradually increased after the start command is received by gradually increasing the amount of time that the power semi-conductors (SCRs) are conducting. The EZ Start starter has been in production with only minor changes for the past 20 years. It is a proven device with an excellent performance record. SDL alone has sold over 1000 of these starters. The following is a description of both the required and optional components needed to quote and build a reduced voltage starter system. We will design and build a motor control system as required by the customer.
