Description

New Driver Assessment and Training System (DATS) module for STISIM Drive™. DATS uses realistic visual imagery and driving situations in simulating vehicle behavior based on expected Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). Using a scientifically accepted formula, the DATS module calculates expected BAC based on gender, age, body type, number of drinks, and consumption time, then illustrates the effects of driving while impaired. About STI Systems Technology, Inc. is a small, employee-owned research and development company located in Hawthorne, California. Founded in 1957 to study the behavior of dynamic systems, including ground and aerospace vehicles, and the human operators attempting to control them, STI has become an internationally-recognized center of expertise. As a prime contractor to the U. S. Government and a consultant to industry, STI has accomplished several hundred research and development programs in vehicle dynamics (air, space, ground, and sea), manual and automatic vehicular guidance and control systems, handling and flying qualities, control and stability theory, human operator dynamics, human subsystem dynamics, operator impairment, and associated topics.Duane T. McRuer, Co-Founder of STI, has a professional history encompassing all aspects of control systems engineering. His primary system development efforts have been concerned with manual and automatic flight control and guidance for manned and unmanned aerospace and land vehicles. His major individual work has been in fully powered controls, vehicle stability augmentation (including the first stability augmenters to fly in the USA), unification and integration of manual and automatic flight controls (including the first fly‑by‑wire system to fly), aerospace and ground vehicle dynamics, pilot/vehicle and driver/vehicle system dynamics, guidance systems, avionics, and the optimization of vehicle characteristics from the control standpoint. All modern high performance aircraft depend to some extent on this work and carry descendants of systems he originated.
