Founded in 1973, Tidewater Fibre Corporation (TFC) is a privately held and family-operated business. TFC Recycling is Virginia’s largest residential curbside recycler. Through our partnerships and agreements with local and municipal governments, and public service authorities, we provide recycling services for over 700,000 households in six of Virginia’s largest cities, and more than 4,000 commercial customers in Virginia and North Carolina.

TFC has a long and storied history with recycling and an exciting future as a leader in the recycling industry. We have an unwavering passion for recycling and for finding solutions for turning waste into a resource. Headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia, we employ over 350 people, operate more than 180 collection and transfer vehicles. We pioneered the first automated Material Recovery Facility (MRF) on the East Coast. We continue to revolutionize the industry through our use of single stream recycling which allows customers and residents to throw plastic, paper and glass recyclables in one recycling container. No sorting is needed. When recycling is easier, overall participation rates are higher.

There is not one person in our company that does not know who Carter is and when company events are planned I am asked by employees if Carter is coming. Carter has become our ambassador for recycling and is invited to all of our corporate events. Carter changed who we are as a company. Portraits of his visit line our hallway as a reminder that we not only serve businesses and municipalities but we serve as stewards for a new generation of recyclers.
