Hobby Lobby was founded in 1970 in the Green family garage after the family borrowed $600 to manufacture miniature picture frames. Today, the company employs more than 13,000 people in 572 stores across the nation. Mardel Christian Bookstores, founded in 1981, now has 35 locations in seven states. The company gives 10 percent of its corporate profits toward Bible translation.

I am a 77-year-old who has been involved in church leadership for over 45 years and has watched the decline in making real disciples for several years. We sit around wringing our hands wondering why we can’t keep our young people after they get out on their own, why 6 million of us Southern Baptists don’t show up at worship services anymore, why we are so hesitant to confront people about their salvation, why there are no revivals anymore, why pastors are afraid to preach on the socials ills that confront us every day like adultery, abortion and homosexuality and why there is little teaching on the Holy Spirit anymore.

Sight & Sound Theatres, founded in 1976, is the nation’s largest Christian theatre company, according to a press release. While it is a ministry, the company is not affiliated with any external organization or any particular church denomination. It is a family-owned and operated, for-profit organization that accepts no charitable support.

“Anytime the focus is ‘the mission trip’ or what you want to do it is not going to be a good experience. We have to always begin with, ‘Who are the people that we are wanting to impact with the gospel? What do they believe? What is their culture? What are their needs? What is it that we can provide to meet those needs and in meeting those needs take the gospel?’” said Ramsey.

In 1859, there was the Arkansas Baptist , edited by P.S.G. Watson, which ceased publication during the Civil War. Other short-lived publications included another Arkansas Baptist founded in Little Rock by N.P. Moore, which lasted 10 weeks; Western Baptist , started in 1873 in Searcy, a two-year venture by T.B. Espy and T.P. Boone; Baptist Index , started in Texarkana in 1880; and Arkansas Baptist Banner (originally Arkansas Baptist ) started in 1879 in Beebe and later moved to Judsonia.
