Description
Sony DVCAM Format Info Firmly based on the consumer DV format, a technology that enjoys uncommonly broad international support, Sony developed DVCAM for the professional. Thanks to 5:1 compression, the DVCAM cassette is amazingly small yet allows up to 184 minute recording on a standard cassette and 40 minutes on a mini cassette. The dual size cassette mechanism means most DVCAM models accept the mini and standard cassettes without an adapter. The new advanced Metal Evaporated (ME) tape provides the format with a basis for high durability and low dropout characteristics. Audio recording supports both the 2-ch and 4-ch modes. DVCAM product can playback consumer DV recorded tape (SP only) and the more recent Sony consumer DV products will playback DVCAM recorded tape. Digital I/O's ranging from DV (IEEE 1394 compatible), SDI AND SDTI and a variety of analog I/O's are standard or optional on most models. And finally, the DVCAM product line has been designed with compatibility to existing analog formats in mind making it easier to transition to digital.
