Hi! My name is Clancey. Most people think I’m just a big, dumb, goofy dog, but I’m really smart and know a lot about Terry’s Service Center, Incorporated I’m really proud of the fine reputation my mom and dad have worked hard to build. Having your own business in today’s times is really challenging, and my mom and dad do a super job! I give them lots of big, drool-filled kisses every day, to show them how special everyone thinks they are! It all started a long time ago, when my dad was just a kid himself. Even way back then, dad liked tinkering on cars! Heck, his first car was a 1955 Volkswagen Beetle that he got when he was just 12 years old. Dad told me once that tinkering on cars ran in his family – that his dad and grandfather loved it as much as he did! Dad started his “official” automotive training when he was in high school in Calumet City, Illinois. That was way before he met mom! Each year, Plymouth would sponsor “The Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest” for high school students in the automotive vocational courses. Teams of two students each were given an automobile that had “problems,” and each team had to “de-bug” the vehicle and repair it within the allotted time period. My dad and his partner won First Place in the State contest and placed 7th in the National competition. Wow! I’ll bet you never knew that about my dad, did you? After graduating high school, dad started working as a mechanic at various garages until a family member talked him into starting their own shop. They named it “E & T Motors,” and it was a combination, auto repair shop/body, shop/used car lot. It was during this time that dad met mom! They had met at a party given by mutual friends. Mom thought dad was sort of goofy, but eventually they started dating and before long, they had moved in together. A year and a half later, dad and his business partner sold “E & T Motors” and in October of 1984, mom, dad and Jaclyn moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Dad started working at some of the auto repair shops in the West Nashville/Belle Meade area, and his reputation as a fine mechanic grew. In April of 1990, Terry’s Service Center, Incorporated was opened in the garage behind the Texaco on Harding Road in West Meade. Mom agreed to run the office and do the bookkeeping, while dad repaired all the cars that came in. Their business continued to grow until the day they realized that they needed a larger shop. One of dad’s customers was a real estate agent and he helped mom and dad to find the property where Terry’s Service Center is now located! Glenn McDonald joined the team first as a mechanic and was promoted later to Shop Manager. It’s Glenn that keeps things running very smoothly at the shop. Dad still loves to work on cars and does most of the computer diagnosing. We have two very fine mechanics that work with dad and Glenn, and mom still works in the office…sometimes! My human sister, Jaclyn, worked in the office for awhile with mom, but now she owns the local florist shop in Hickman County where the family lives. I come in to work with dad every day.
