Description

The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) was established by legislative mandate to provide wind and hail insurance for Texas Gulf Coast property owners in the event of catastrophic loss. We provide "basic" coverage unavailable in traditional markets for consumers who might otherwise be left uninsured.

This part of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (“TWIA”) website is dedicated to informing policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders about the changes to TWIA and the claims process resulting from the passage of House Bill 3 by the 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Special Session. It is important to know that the changes are occurring very quickly; the effective date of the new law is September 28, 2011. In addition, policy forms have been revised to reflect the changes to the law. These new policy forms will begin to be issued for new and renewal policies beginning November 27, 2011.

Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) is a 'pool' of all property and casualty (P&C) insurance companies authorized to write coverage in Texas. TWIA provides basic wind and hail insurance coverage for Gulf Coast property owners who might otherwise be left uninsured. Because TWIA is the provider of last resort, we do not try to expand our customer base or actively compete against private insurance providers. Chapter 2210 of the Texas Insurance Code defines the structure of TWIA.
